Oaklawn Speed Bumps

Just received a message from a concerned resident of the Saint Streets. She sent the following: “Most of the families in our area enjoy walking, strolling or biking around the neighborhood. I have spoken with several neighbors and we agree that something needs to be done about the traffic speed down Oaklawn Avenue.”

Please remember to slow down on these residential streets!!

  1. do not talk to the city about traffic calming, they illegally installed them in our part of the saint streets, never even asked us! no meetings, no petitions, they did none of the steps in their own written policy! they are a nightmare, the intersection of st patrick and souvenir gate was rated the 2nd deadliest in lafayette because they removed all stop signs and put a 4-way yield intersection. i am almost hit EVERYDAY! as well as at all the other intersections where the stop signs were removed and replaced with 4-way yields! i have a speed hump in front of my house, it costs me about $2000 extra every year, per vehicle in maintenance on my vehicles and all day and night i hear “CLUNK, CLUNK” as people pass over it. by the way, NO ONE slows down, i do not either! i got a petition signed by every resident except for one, but he said if the remove and i quote “the death waiting to happen intersections i will gladly sign to have the speed lumps removed” all these devices did was ruin our neighborhood! trust me, you are better off doing like they did on the other side of congress, they put up funny little signs and it worked! and they did not have the property value killed, the horrible noise, the horrible damage to vehicles and huge extra yearly cost to keep their cars on the road!
